Kirkwood Golf Committee Awards High School Senior Golfer Bridget Martin

Sowe High School senior (2014), Bridget Martin, received the Outstanding Senior Golfer Award from the Kirkwood Golf Committee.  The Kirkwood Golf Tournament is an annual event that began in 1967 when Joe Kirkwood was the Head Professional at Stowe CC.  The proceeds of the tournament support Junior Golf in the Stowe Area, introducing the game to youngsters from 2nd grade through high school.

The committee recognized Bridget for exemplifying the character that the game of golf hopes to instill in young players.  The Stowe junior golf program seeks to introduce the game and instill life-long character traits in young players – Honesty, Confidence, Courtesy, Respect, Sportsmanship, Perseverance, Integrity, Responsibility and Judgment.   The $1000 award included a certificate with the following words crafted by Coach Chris Eaton:

Bridget has been an excellent student athlete on the golf team the past 3 years. Bridget started playing golf as a freshman and quickly picked up the game.  She has expressed confidence, courtesy, and sportsmanship while competing for Stowe High School in regular season matches as well as the State Tournament.  Bridget has shown integrity and perseverance when faced with tough matches and conditions that could frustrate any player.  She likes the challenge of the game and how it has helped her improve her concentration and focus. Bridget has proved to be a great example of what the game of golf instills in players.
